The computer I use at work is stressed. There is a reason for it, I write stuff that needs stress-testing, so I load it up with a heap of M$ apps such as Outlook Express (an oxymoron), TweetDeck (blindingly bad memory hog) and so on.
When you stress a machine like this, it slows down considerably if you stress it more.
My blog comes up pretty quickly. So do many others.
But some are SO loaded up with widgets and adverts and graphics that I sometimes get bored waiting and close them down.
I f anyone would like to get a stress result on their blog page, please whack a link in the comments and I'll give you an honest lowdown on performance.
I'd hate to do this to you if don't want to know.
Morning, all!

I'm always up for good advice.
This is mine.
Thanks!
AW
Go for it then,

Ten seconds. But if you hit a single page off a twitter link, lightning. e.g. http://youve-been-cromwelled.org/?p=762
Bon.
Walrus: slick. 3 seconds and done.
Rab: page up in under a second.
Ten seconds later, still can't scroll for the widgets still loading. I think you have a bit of widget porn.
Single article, much quicker, e.g. http://rantinrab.blogspot.com/2010/04/looking-for-mcjob.html
A lot of the widgets reload much more quickly on the cache though.
CSR:
Slick. Single article: lightning.

Filthy:
Flash porn. The adverts for Antivirus software hang it up so you can't scroll.
Loads quickly especially with a single topic such as http://niklowe.blogspot.com/2010/04/teenage-soldier-hailed-for-rescue.html but the friendconnect thing is slowish.
By no means the worst. I'm still waiting for the worst to ask me, because I don't want to tell someone who probably doesn't want to know :-)
However, it's the first time I've seen you blog. I like it, it hasn't been on any of my reading lists before. Shame on me.
Try it now. The ads were rather irritating.

@Filthy:
Blinding. If you go for the whole site it slows down when you get a Flash embedded, but otherwise (say http://niklowe.blogspot.com/2010/04/teenage-soldier-hailed-for-rescue.html) you can't see the join.
Slick as a freshly greased Perkins.
Cheers for that.
Those ads didn't make much money anyway.
@Filthy:
Did they make ANY? Blimey, I must get and fill my site up with them :-)
Only £7000 in 12 months.
Oops. I meant £7.
Oh and I've worked on a few Perkins engines in my time.
@Filthy:
I'm driven by a Thorneycroft-marinised Isuzu 27 horse, but then I've only got 55 feet :-)

@Hunk:
Slow as a slow thing when Flash requested. A non-Flash post, blinding.
Flash is pants if you're an avid reader, often better to post a LINK to the flash rather than embed it. JMHO but then I can't listen to Flash movies at work anyway, although I can watch them in a Charlie Chaplin stylee.
Can I have a go? ;-)
I took adverts off months ago, having made 11 dollars in six months.
Oh, and I'm at constantlyfurious.blogspot.com, but then you know that: you were there not long ago ;-)
I just have to have a go, been wondering what my load time is like to others:
http://freedom-2-choose.blogspot.com/
@CF:
Slick. Funny though, the orangey/pinky/furious background colour stays for a while, then a bit of white background appears, then the rest of it turns white background right at the end. Does the same on the iPhone. Only one I know that does it.
BigYin
Usual thing, loads of embedded videos takes forever. If you hit a single one with no video, slick.
See above, JMHO on Flash video content. And iPhones won't play them (yet).
Thanks for that Unc. The same thing happens to me on CFs site but it doesn't take a hair of the dog to right itself.
A tip for blog readers - use Firefox with Flashblock.
It's great for YouTube too, means you can load several vids and not have to keep flipping back to stop them all starting up together.
Do me, do me!
(As my wife used to say...)
http://captainranty.blogspot.com/
Blimey, Ranty, you've got a long memory!
Actually, she still does say that.
Yep, usual. Fast unless you pick up a vid. The more vids you get, the slower, and you've got a ton of them a few posts from the top.
What's wrong with posting a link (to open in a separate page) to the vids, rather than embedding them?
Just asking.
Thanks Marv.
I can reduce the number of posts to 5, and just link to the vids instead.
Thanks for the advice.
CR.
BTW-it has been some time since you settled your account. 'Er indoors doesn't do that for love you know. We depend on that money.
Quick or slow?
